55 Delicious Opportunities to Empower Chicago Youth This September
What’s going on right now?
This September, Kitchen Possible is bringing back our annual Empowering Menus Fundraiser for the 5th year, with more support from the local restaurant community than ever! 54 of Chicago’s most acclaimed restaurants like Giant, Monteverde, Maxwell’s Trading, and Thattu will be helping to fund our winter programming via a popular menu item. All September long, food lovers can support a great cause by enjoying some of the most delicious bites and sips in the city. An interactive map on the website can help diners find a partnering restaurant near them!
Dining out this September could mean an epic meal in, from an acclaimed chef!
Anyone who visits one of our partnering restaurants in September has the chance to win a meal for 4, cooked in their very own home, by either Darnell Reed (Luella’s Southern Kitchen) or Jason Vincent (Giant, Chef’s Special, Pizza Matta). Both Darnell and Jason serve on the Kitchen Possible Board of Directors and are excited to cook for one lucky Kitchen Possible supporter each.
Entry is simple. Just post a photo to your Instagram feed (story posts will not be accepted as entry) and mention + visibly tag @kitchenpossiblechi any time you visit one of the below restaurants this September. What is Kitchen Possible?
Kitchen Possible is a Chicago-based non-profit that builds empowered mindsets in kids through cooking. As they learn to cook, kids in our program develop confidence, a sense of control, and a make-it-happen attitude that set them up for success outside of the kitchen. We offer free cooking lessons and mentorship to youth aged 8-12 in East Garfield Park, Humboldt Park, Pilsen, Hyde Park, and Austin neighborhoods.
Why should you care?
Research shows, when kids believe that they have control over what happens in their lives, they are more likely to experience positive outcomes as they grow. When we model the power of setting a goal, following a plan, and pushing through when things get tough, we can help shape the way kids approach their world. This is where cooking (and Kitchen Possible) comes in! Many of the chefs from this year’s supporting restaurants have spent time in our classes, working directly with the kids. They’ve experienced firsthand the confidence boost and life skills learned in Kitchen Possible, and we’re honored for them to support us through this fundraiser.
